Welcome to the new Nature Knowledge Website!

    Welcome!

My original concept for this site is to promote the Sierra Club's Nature Knowledge Workshop. But I am hoping it will evolve into something much more.

The Nature Knowledge Workshop (NKW) is the premier outdoor educational event held by the San Diego Chapter of the Sierra Club. Over the last 33 years, we have led thousands of people on nature walks through the Laguna Mountain region of San Diego County. Held over a single weekend every June at the historic and scenic Foster Lodge, participants experience an outdoor adventure like none other.

Think of it as “Summer Camp for Adults”.

During the two days you stay with us, you will take nature walks with Naturalists, Biologists, and other Outdoor Enthusiasts. They will introduce you to the plants, trees, and the chirping birds you will find in the chaparral, meadows, and forest surrounding the Foster Lodge.

Throughout the weekend, we hold talks and workshops discussing many topics, including Astronomy, Geology, Growing Native Plants, Native Cultures, and more.

And let’s not forget our foot-stomping folksong/bluegrass performance on Friday night.

And of course, we feed you well.

It’s a weekend you have to experience to believe. It’s Nature. It’s Learning. And it’s fun. And once you attend, you’ll want to return again.

Want to learn more? Try the FAQ page and the What is the NKW? page.

There is no reason I cannot use this site to promote other events and activities that have the same philosophy and vision as the NKW. So look forward to seeing more news and postings about conservation and wilderness issues facing Southern California.
