    Foster Lodge Status

It has been one week since the Chariot Fire started in the Anza Borrego State Park. The fire is now nearly fully contained after scorching over 7000 acres and destroying dozens of buildings in the Mt. Laguna area. Among the hardest hit were the Al Bahr Shrine Camp and the Sierra Club's Foster Lodge.

Foster Lodge damage was mostly limited to the smaller of the two buildings. The The smaller cabin was completely destroyed, while the larger lodge appears to escape mostly unscathed.

All that remains of the small cabin is ash and debris.

The Sunrise Highway was reopened for through traffic on Friday, but no stopping is allowed in the burned areas. This means we have not been able to have full access to the site. Once officials have assessed the area's damage, we will be able to get on site ourselves and begin clean up. A work party has been tentatively set for July 27. If you are interested in helping in any way, please contact the San Diego Sierra Club Chapter office 858-569-6005.

More timely information can be found on the NKW Facebook page.
